25 yd Bill - Engagement pace
How fast and fully accountable can you be for real-world application? There is no across the board answer. The answer is it depends. During training I push myself well out of my comfort zone to acclimate myself to shooting very aggressively. Then, I want my accountability to try and match my max speed and aggression. This is my training zone. When I come off the gas slightly for real-world application it will still be very aggressive – maybe only a couple of tenths "slower" on the timer – but there will be full control and accountability. First, be honest with yourself. This isn't the range and it isn't a match and you will not suddenly manifest skill you never had.
Some not all factors to consider:
Ask yourself, where is my current skill set, on demand, and cold (True cold drills and shooting a match will give you immense feedback on this)
What personal range data do I have to validate my true skill
What is the size, distance, and risk associated with the target
Can I maintain full accountability for how aggressive I plan to shoot
This is why I Iike using the mini A-DAP steel plates as part of my data collection for getting feedback on where that line is. Smaller plate is more accountability and there are no charlies or deltas, only hits or misses. The deafening sound of a mike changes your perception of what's happening downrange. Those misses are unaccounted for off the range. 25 yds demands an understanding of visual cues and grip pressure consistency to shoot aggressively and have it be repeatable. Grocery store aisles on average are 33 yds. Food for thought.
Can I go faster? Yes, but sub 4 with the draw and split times displayed is very aggressive at 25 and I know I can maintain accountability and shoot my vision with full confidence. You need to explore these things on the range and have a very clear understanding of where your skill is or isn't.
